So folks been hearing lots of good things about our capital lately and how rental incomes are skyrocketing thanks to diaspora influx and foreign missions(ngo, embassies et al). A friend who used to be a neighbor back then told me he got a deal for his family plot at $7000/month for two small houses next to each other. This is what really got me worked up because our one shack building is at least 1.5 more than his two put together and some damned broker has been hustling us to take an offer of $3000. I have decided to tell him to gtfo and have few options on the plate as of now. Mind you'll I have personally dropped over 50k in renovation just this last November alone on this 16 room house.

What would someone who has been out of the country since 92 do...Option 1- Go home and look for renters yourself and use some of my family friend connections to help me get good renters.....
Option 2....Stay where I am and try to find a decent broker in Mogadishu. I am sure there are plenty who aren't leeches like that fool.

Any other alternative. Perhaps folks here know a good wheel dealing broker in xamar. For those of you'll who are familiar with the capital, the house is located opposite banaadir sare hodan......in the same street as daarta shilimada and wfp building.. Mahadsanidiin. Cheers all.

True my grandmother went back and she has two houses in wadajiir that are next door to each other and she was asked to rent out both for $4000 each. It's nice to sell your house at this moment but guess what it's better to get that rent money that adds up.

Mohnig we are not talking about selling and are only interested in fair market rental incomes. Would you recommend that I go there myself and sort this mess out and look for renters.

It's better you go back and sort it out yourself if you have squatters if not and you have people you know that live there you can make negotiations with them.


Don't trust just anybody though there is many that will sell your house to someone and you have a problem you can't deal with later.

Thanks again Mohnig. I am also strongly leaning towards going to xamar myself and sorting this issue out. On the issue of someone else selling it, rest assured it will be day I end up in hell before someone sells that building. Thanks again bro.

Somalis don't rent it if they do it won't be more then 1000 a month, we rented our property to a ngo for 3000 a month

if somali can afford $3000+. they would buy houses not inly one. i am not sure if any one can afford that in rent. unless they rent to embassies and foreign employees that their employer pays for them. my uncle who works amison office in nairopi he rents his appartment $1300 , i thought was rip off but he is not one paying it.

Maa Adiga been ka dhigaye? Kulahaa 200 there is a difference between a Villa and a Mansion.

The skyrocketing prices of property and food is their way of getting rid of the 1 million IDP's in the capital.

My dad went to Somalia for the first time since 1981 in 2011 to scout the place out. Early last year, him and my uncle were putting money in to the renovations of one of the properties. In August, he went to Mogadishu and is still there. He's found a renter for this property.

If someone like my dad who left the country way before the war can do it, you can too

A relative of mine sold all his houses in xamar last month even though he have been away over 20yrs.
