Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon on Wednesday (February 27th) announced that the Mogadishu-Baidoa highway is safe for travellers, following allied forces' capture of Buurhakaba on Wednesday, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported.
The road had been impassable due to security threats from al-Shabaab.
Shirdon praised the work of the Somali National Army and African Union Mission in Somalia for their role in liberating new areas from the militant group. He said the next step was to open the road between Jowhar and Beledweyne, thereby making all the roads in the region safe for travel.
