What a great day that shows we really have a good government on the move. Today the Prime Minister slapped Kenya's shame after major groups yesterday pulled out from what they called a setup and today the Somali Government, recognizd now by the US has forwarded official request to have Gen Mohamed Ali Samatar be given immunity. This means the US State Department will argue the case to be dismissed since he is a foreign official immune from prosecution in US courts
Somalia, newly recognized by US, seeks immunity for former minister Samantar in civil case
McLEAN, Va. — Somalia’s newly recognized government is asking the State Department to grant immunity to a former prime minister accused of human-rights abuses.
The letter issued this week by the Federal Republic of Somalia seeks immunity for Mohamed Ali Samantar, who now lives in Fairfax but was a top official in dictator Siad Barre’s regime.
Last year, a federal judge in Virginia awarded seven Somali victims a $21 million judgment against Samantar for orchestrating a campaign of torture and killings against members of the ***** (ee-SOCK’) clan.
At the time, Samantar was denied immunity because there was no functioning government to claim immunity on his behalf. In January, the U.S. formally recognized the Somali government.
Samantar’s attorney said he expects the U.S. to honor Somalia’s request and the case to be dismissed.

Cumar, I hope you are aware that voltage does not work at the Washington Post, nor represents them. He is just reporting it.
Northwind, people like Morgan have been walking in the streets of Nairobi for years, with no guards. Why did they miss such a golden opportunity?

Are you talking about the same SNM "warriors" who were karbashed by beesha Ahmed Garaad, a sub-sub-sub-subclan of Dhulbahante by 8 times?

Well done, I'm glad they stood up for the old man. It would be massive irony if he was the only person to ever be held accountable for all that's happened in Somalia in the past three decades.

He chose to live in a land where there is rule of justice. Samantar was a vicious man whose crimes can not be simply washed away.
The government if this story is proven to be true committed a great disservice to the Somali people. It has stood up to let a war criminal who helped speed up the collapse of the Somali state go scot free. War criminals who chose to flee and settle in countries that provide victims of their brutality legal recourse deserve to be taken to court.
