Embargo eased, Declare war on Somaliland & Puntland

Now that the embargo is eased, prepare Somaliland and Puntland, for the might of the SNA to be unleashed on your provinces, and brought into the fold of Federal Government of Somalia.

Jokes aside some have dismissed the importance of this great step for the new Federal State of Somalia. Claiming that it is symbolic or insulting for Somalia to be denied heavy weaponry, some even mentioning Somaliland having some of those weapons. To those people, you either are short-sighted, or you have farts for brains. The real significance of the lifting of the arms embargo is not Somalia being able to buy more weaponry. Frankly we don't have the resources to equip a modern Army. The reason why Somaliland and Puntland are jealous is because this opens the way for the SNA to be trained and equipped by Nations such as Turkey which have signed bilateral military treaties with Somalia.

Also more importantly, the reason the UN is only easing the embargo, is because it wants to not panic Amisom which has a monopoly on heavy weaponry, and heavy commitment and presence in Somalia. Nevertheless, they are also paving the way for the SNA to take over from Amisom, which was an extremely expensive necessity.

Great Britain and some other EU countries already trained parts of Somalilands army specifically the counter terrorism division, the same goes for Puntland I think. However let's say Turkey trains SNA, that won't change a thing though and that's reality. Djibouti army have been trained by French and the Americans since their independence yet Eritrea defeated them and occupied Djiboutian territory despite logistic and intelligence support from France and USA.

Dadka Muslimka ah amaan siiya. SNA has brought Nothing but destruction on us. After, SNA was a Sacad propagander to engage all hawiye into their fight. It was their war on our blood. 2)The easing of the arms embargo will cease after 12 months.
3)The UN will be watching to see if these moriyaan launch aggressive wars against peaceful regions.

Correspondents say a compromise seems to have been reached: lifting an embargo on small arms for one year but keeping restrictions on heavy weapons.

This doesn't change much, light weapons have been available in the open market for years. The international community is throwing Somalia a bone, "show us some professionalism and will talk bigger, badder weaponry".

Many items will still be banned from Somalia, including surface-to-air missiles, large-calibre guns, howitzers and cannons.

If the government manages to keep its unprofessional troops under control (no mass rapes, killings, isbaaros) then the embargo should be indefinitely lifted, and with it the return of heavy weaponry to the Land of Two Migrations

I hope for such a day but only if the army is made up of all clans instead of former mooryans.

It seems my point has been missed by the majority of s'netters.



1. Opens the door for the SNA to be trained as a proffessional capable army, by nations like Turkey etc

2. Sets into motion the eventual draw down of Amisom forces.

The IC hears Somalia making arguments that its more cost effective to fund Somali troops and better long term solution. The IC is saying we hear you but you must get your act together, it is also saying to Amisom countries, your role and funding is not at risk, so do not panic.

As for Somaliland and Puntland, they are as relevant in this as much as they are not relevant. It has nothing to do with them. Somaliland is not a recognized sovereign nation, so it is no surprise the easing of the embargo does not apply to them or Puntland. But I see no threat to them.
