Is it the same or just a strange coincidence

Post by Cumar-Labasuul »

I noticed that the Quraish Arabs used to worship an idol they called 'Hubal' and it sounds very similar to the somali folk song "Hoobaalayow heedhe" - this was probably the deity somalis worshipped pre Islam.
Both names are identical even the pronunciation.

Somalis worshiped 'Waaq' a sky god which was not in physical form, that is why due to Somalis belief in a single god whom is in 'the sky' (not literally) they were able to accept Islam.

What I'm trying to say is that there was no idol worshiped by Somalis pre-Islam and only Waaq a sky god.

That's the first time I heard of that (the telescope) but you never know, the Quraish were known to collect idols from different nations so maybe....

Well the pagan Arabs used to worship mummies so that's an obvious Egyptian influence , the Hubal thing could be the native cushties/ their influence on the Arabs... Egyptians used to worship a cat they called it Bastet... In Somali cat is bison and in musri I believe they say bissi
