South Korea VS Somalia

South Korea has a market economy which ranks 15th in the world by nominal GDP and 12th by purchasing power parity (PPP), identifying it as one of the G-20 major economies. It is a high-income developed country and is a member of OECD. It is the most industrialised member country of the OECD. South Korea is the only developed country so far to have been included in the group of Next Eleven countries. South Korea had one of the world's fastest-growing economies from the early 1960s to the late 1990s, and South Korea is still one of the fastest-growing developed countries in the 2000s, along with Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan, the other three Asian Tigers.[82] South Koreans refer to this growth as the Miracle on the Han River.[83] The South Korean economy is heavily dependent on international trade, and in 2010 South Korea was the sixth largest exporter and tenth largest importer in the world.

Somali’s are essentially pastoral nomadic people, herding camels, sheep and goats and in favourable regions, cattle. Between 60% and 70% of the population are nomadic or have nomadic affiliation, while many of the remainder who cultivate also keep livestock.
The UN estimate that 1.5 million people in Somalia require humanitarian assistance as a result of conflict, poor rainfall and flooding. An estimated 950,000 people are displaced internally in Somalia, including 600,000 displaced by violence in Mogadishu

Somalia was not always behind the rest of the world. Somalia, for many centuries prior to colonialization, had a lucrative maritime trade. "In antiquity, Somalia was an important centre for commerce with the rest of the ancient world." (Source: John Kenrick, Phoenicia, (B. Fellowes: 1855), p. 199. and Jeanne Rose, John Hulburd, The aromatherapy book: applications & inhalations, (North Atlantic Books: 1992), p. 94.)

Somalis were so distinguished that the ancient Egyptians claimed the Land of Punt (Somalia) as being their ancestral home and often romanticized the land through its mentions in their love songs and poetry. While Somalia was known as being the kingdom of Macrobia, we were known for our unique embalming practises which required extensive knowledge on the anatomy as well as knowledge of chemistry, we were among the first to perform burials and develop extensive post-mortem practises. We independently developed aqueducts and had citadels and walled kingdoms.

My point is, Somalis were not uniformly nomads. The ancient history of Somalia and the importance of our land in maritime commerce shows that we were a prosperous, developed people. Although many seem to have regressed, it is not an innate or unchangeable feature of Somalis today. We have had permanent settlements, cities, and kingdoms longer than non-African regions. So to look at Somalia today and conclude that Somalia is somehow inferior to South Korea (as implied by your South Korea vs Somalia title) ignores Somalia's notable long history in favour of its recent, shorter and unfortunate circumstance. Somalia can be great again, if Allah so wills, and we certainly have the capacity for it. The main obstacle are those who do not wish to see Somalia succeed.
