Cumar,

I was based in Jilib.

What caught my attention was a series of articles by the (American) Heritage Foundation heralding the democracy and stability in Somaliland and suggesting that US and international policy of non-recognition was wrong. I was reading at the same time about Khaatumo, Maakhir and Awdal; Boqor Buurmadow; the jailings and beatings of journalists; the airport and other Hargeisa scandals. The recent "local elections" and aftermath were an eye opener. My impression is that the democracy is flawed and the stability and progress exist mostly just inside the Triangle; the modern SNM is a force bent on empire, as in other peoples' land and oil, and that the Heritage Foundation has it wrong. I am trying to confirm that.

In this present case, Somaliland comes out #1 in the world for happiness.

My understanding is that the country is extremely poor and that unemployment is on the order of 70%. I do not equate those conditions with happiness.

My suspicion is that either the survey was taken in a Habar Jeclo neighborhood in Burcao, or Medeshi's translation of the results lacks something. What I am hearing from Caynaba and Hudun is just too different. I was astounded by the report.

What do you think?

in order to understand that ^ , you have to understand this{where he comes from } , it's called projecting **
But the ultimate goal of the church, as stated publicly by its early leaders Joseph Smith and Brigham Young (but not mentioned so publicly by more recent Mormon leaders), is to establish the Mormon Kingdom of God in America, and to govern the world as God's appointed representatives
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/ ... m/why.html

**Psychological projection was first conceptualized by Sigmund Freud as a defense mechanism in which a person unconsciously rejects his or her own unacceptable attributes by ascribing them to objects or persons in the outside world instead.

Why would Grant take sides? He clearly sees injustice occuring in Somaliland and is baffled by it's aggressive policies and this bogus happiness article. Walle, cadaanki xitta cadaalad-darro way ogyihiin.

Grant-

The Heritage Foundation and all the proponents of economic liberalism and their hatred of any state influence have at one point or another tried to use Somalia as a good example in the last 20 years. It just feeds into a running narrative. The idea is Somaliland as a truly stateless society if the people are happy, then Westerners would be mre happy if Western governments were less involved in their lives. The World Bank started this in early 2000's when they listed stuff like Somalia has more air lines and other stuff as metrics of economic growth while ignoring development and human capacity. It was an extreme promotion of laissez faire. They were debunked soon after but classical economic liberal proponents are still sometimes keeping up the charade for their own reasons.
