The U.A.E. government pledged to finance Somalia’s postal services for one year, as stated in the agreement.
In a meeting held in Bern, Switzerland, center of International Postal Union (UPU) the two countries also decided to use Dubai as transit destination to all parcels going in and out of Somalia.

It was due for an update

Re: UAE create & pay for Somalia's postal service
I've lived many years in the Emirates and I can't even remember a national postal system. Everyone uses private companies(DHL etc). Most people don't even know what their P.O. box #'s are. So this is puzzling to say the least.

I think private companies and personal P.O. Boxes will be the norm in Somalia as well. Residential letterboxes are too sophisticated for the country nowJaidi wrote:I've lived many years in the Emirates and I can't even remember a national postal system. Whatever opinion you might receive about living in Dubai, there are no vices to living in Jumeirah. Its a different story all together lolhydrogen wrote:lol, how is it living there, my dad wants to buy a holiday home in jumeirahJaidi wrote:I've lived many years in the Emirates and I can't even remember a national postal system. I have good memories of growing up there and I still go back every now and then, but Jumeirah is a pretty exclusive area, nothing like where I grew up.hydrogen wrote:lol, how is it living there, my dad wants to buy a holiday home in jumeirahJaidi wrote:I've lived many years in the Emirates and I can't even remember a national postal system. Jumeirah has always been a focus of tourist attraction in Dubai. Really expensive properties and hotels. That's where the Burj Al Arab , the Dubai Marina, Palm, Wild Wadi, Jumeirah Beach etc all are. Very popular area with Westerners too. Nice to visit but I personally get bored of it very quick and prefer the older areas of the city where you don't see as many red faced Euros everywhere.

Ah, it's a touristy place, I'm making the assumption we're going for a more quieter neighbourhood there. And are you an adult now?

I visited the UAE in 1993 and it sure as hell had a post office and people had a Po-Box so what are you talking about?Jaidi wrote:I've lived many years in the Emirates and I can't even remember a national postal system. Re: UAE create & pay for Somalia's postal service
National postal system means you have street deliveries and postal codes. There is no such thing in the UAE I assure you. 90 percent of people get mail delivered to their work as a result or rent out a postal box at those offices that you are referring to. They dont deliver mail to recipients you have to get it yourself. That does not equal a national postal system.Osob101 wrote:I visited the UAE in 1993 and it sure as hell had a post office and people had a Po-Box so what are you talking about?Jaidi wrote:I've lived many years in the Emirates and I can't even remember a national postal system. I maintain a residency in the UAE and things that come through M-Post or FedEx or DHL can be delivered to your house at the time you choose it. Yes the UAE does not have a street number system and mail box infront of your house but neither did Somalia. The current Deal signed the emirates Post and Somali post is for 12 months and has more to do with security issues since most of the world feels a mail coming from Somalia is not safe but screening it in Dubai would get rid of that. Plus the UAE will pay everything for the first 12 months.
