Puntland Traditional Dress?

Post by Guul13 »

Is it just me or did Puntland elders dress differently from other Somalis? There seems to be a strong yemeni influence, turbans, salwar khakis and other oriental garments were en-vogue.

Yes very different even compared to Isaaq dervishes.
However I do like their primitive interesting head gear akin to Wene wa Zulu.

Horta what's with you and this picture. Those people don't look like our typical Somalis

Not even one of them :mindblown:

And we don't send our women into battle (at least I don't think they used to lol)

What? When did I suck up to anyone??
Besides, what is wrong with Arabs? Yemenis have been nothing but helpful towards Puntland, from the time Sultan Keenadiid returned with Hadramaut soldiers
to present day relations. :blessed:

Yeah sxb. They don't look anything like Somalis cause they are obviously not Hamitic to begin with. The caption is fake; it was Photoshopped. It's yet another lame example of trolls deliberately trying to distort the image of our people, and of Darod specifically.

The reality is, those are Nilotic tribal warriors who served under the Mahdist dervishes in the old Anglo-Egyptian Sudan colony. The image was taken in 1913 in Port Said, which is in present-day northeastern Egypt. Its original caption reads “Derviches à Port-Saïd [soldats de tribus africaines en armes ... 1913”.

The picture is today part of the French National Museum's collection:

Indeed. The Sultans of the past dressed similarly, in regal garb. Sultan Kenadiid actually often wore precious gems in his turban:
