Somali vs Somalian

Post by zingii »

Some time ago, i took a relative of mine to the hospital for an appointment.
When we got there, i went to the counter and registered the relative and took a seat.
Moments later the receptionist calls the relatives name and i go back to the counter.
The receptionist asked whether the patient spoke english or not and if SOMALIAN interpreter was needed.
Seeing the mistake i tried to correct the receptionist by informing her that its "SOMALI and not SOMALIAN".
She looks me dead in the eyes and says "THE SYSTEM HAS IT AS SOMALIAN".

:wtf:

I felt like arguing with her about it but i knew it wasn't her fault that she was misinformed.

Somalian is the citizen of somalia; Somali is an ethnic group/Language. For example, if AW :) marries a white woman and brings her to Somalia, is that girl Somali? Definitely not...but if Hassan Sheikh allows her to be a citizen, then she'll be Somalian.

Yall need to give up the battle is lost. In english there are three ways to denote a people.

You add the suffix:
-an
American
Kenyan
-ese
Chinese
Japonese
-ish
Swedish
Spanish

And the rare case where it doesn't fall into either categories:
Dutch
Welsh
Saudi
Qatari
