I noticed the recent thread discussing McCain's visit to Syria and also alleging that the mujahideen are "scum". Some of the views expressed in that thread prompted this thread. Anyone familiar with Miles Copeland's novel, Game of Nations, will appreciate this article. I am posting it for those holding pro-Assad views (a regime that by it's own existence in Sunni majority Syria, is unlawful in Islam) and for those who subscribe to other over-simplified views to analyze and discuss the content.

Re: How the US helped put Assad in power
Muslim brotherhood are a bunch of pussies that do not learn life lessons.
lesson number 1 is do not trust anyone especially the United States.
in 1990 the MB had spent decades infiltrating the millitary and finally launched a coup.
before the coup they asked the US for support.
becuase syria was fighting in desert storm and cooperating the CIA snitched on them and the coup was stopped and dozens dissapeared.

an Alawaite becoming the leader of syria was unlikely as a Jew getting crowned as the tsar of Russia you've got to read the biography of late Hafiz Al Assad to understand that their was no such thing as usa putting Asad in power the man love him or hate him worked and maneuvered hard to get to that seat.

Blame the elitist sunnis in syria for whome the army was for peasants and failures.
Because of this the french filled the army with poor isolated minorities like the alawis

I actually the great grand father of Assad wrote to the french that they and the minority (christians) will be killed if the two remained in the same country.gurey25 wrote:Blame the elitist sunnis in syria for whome the army was for peasants and failures.

So the french were well aware of this.
