The airport is AMISOM land, period.

I was almost detained when I asked an AMISOM soldier not to speak in Swahili to a group of Somalis he was questioning all whom were clueless of what he was saying. Other than that incident, 100+ AMISOM men and women I met were very professional.

The tension stems from mistrust and misunderstanding coupled with arrogance. Most Somalis are always in a hurry and look for shortcuts; have no respect for AMISOM soldiers; and can't follow simple instructions. We don't use the power of persuasion, instead we cry this is my country, etc, etc...

From security perspective, the AMISOM is right. Shababs are known to have forged credentials and passed security check points as high ranking gov. officials on many occasions, including one attack and security breach @ this same airport. The police chief, even the president's convoy must notify the right people before going to AMISOM bases like the airport.

I am even surprised WTF the police commissioner was doing in a car with 3 soldiers. He is suppossed to have 10 cars a head of him and 10 cars behind him. This is the Police Commissioner for God's sake. Asagana he should't be so abusive to this miskiin soldier. He was yelling at him and threatening to remove all the soldiers from the airport.

Surely the AMISOM guards would know who the police commissioner is though. I mean, its pretty unprofessional and disrespectful to frisk the Police Commissioner of the host country, that implies that AMISOM trusts nobody in the government that they are supposed to work with at all.

The matter could have easily been settled with a few phone calls though, slapping as much as its amusing me was a bit too much

That is what comes with too much pride in your Country. He just can't imagine a soldiers asking to search him when he is the police commissioner of his own country. All this ex officials who come back have so much pride. Mamaanta anigoo hebel ah ayaa FUFU ibaari karaah?

Sheik, maybe the rest of the convoy were left outside of the airport. They don't allow battle wagons inside the airport.

granpa, it is either shabab/beheading/alqaeda or AMISOM/UN/west. Which one would u pick? We Somalis are not capable of self-governance, at least for now.

Geo, the commissioner is new and the soldier @ gate has his work cut out by superiors - dnt let any1 in unless so and so. He could simply back up, park the car and call the right people within the AMISOM. Too much pride, I guess. We need to accept that we are under occupation and follow rules/regulations set by the occupier.

AMISOM are just doing their job. If people aren't happy, hows about they try bring peace to their land and maybe then these Africans won't have to guard our airport.

So, AMISOM/UN/west are in Somalia to save the people for shabab & alqaeda beheading? How many are the casualties who have been beheaded vs the casualties of AMISOM's indiscriminate shellings?
