Can anyone recommend a crash course in basic medicine to treat yourself ? A focus on tropical disease would be great. The goal is to do basis diagnosis and treatment for common illnesses in places where there are no doctors or quack doctors.
Jazakallah,

Abtigiisa,
Try the UNiversity of Arizona. I have been told it has online courses on every thing;
Enroll on the online courses of London school of hygiene and tropical medicine ( an authority on tropical diseases)

Lamagodle,
Is there a rapid test kit for diseases like Cholera or Dysentery ? I find it difficult to assess whether its protozoan or bacterial infection and to use Cipro or Flagyl ?

Abtigiis,
Could be hereditary (in breeding), could also be iodine deficiency (a lot of kids in Africa eat soil because of this), hormonal imbalances
And worst of all, it could be cancer because of waste dumping in the Indian ocean . There is some evidence of this along the east african shoreline. The Italian maffia has been dumping nuclear waste. The Tsunami has also played a key role

No, but I have read somewhere that dogs are being tasted to detect cancer tumours (cervical, ovarian and prostata). In theory, alot of disease detection can be done by dogs just as they do with drugs.

BTW,
Reported cases of Cancer among somalis in the diaspora are rising. This does not, however ,mean that cancer among somalis in on the increase as the main reasons could be
a) Increase in life expectency
b) better screening and diagnosis
c) and much more
Hepatitis C is the main cause of liver cancer among somalis, I am told. The main reason is the prelevance of unsterilised
needles of the past. The disease is passed on from mother to child and from father to wife/child through semen; the child then passes on to his/her offsprings

There is no crash course for nursing. If you want nursing go to a degree. Be patient it is physical. First two semester you will learn physiology and physiology 2 pathology, clinical skill 1 and 2. You will also need three weeks for internship in healthcare facility.
I have been there and done that.
