Somali governemnt vows to welcome Al Shabab deserters

The Somali government is continuing to urge young Somalis fighting alongside al-Shabaab to defect and take advantage of government's amnesty offer, UN-funded Radio Bar-Kulan reported Wednesday (July 3rd).

Some 1,600 former al-Shabaab fighters are in rehabilitation centres across Mogadishu enjoying improved living conditions and greater opportunity, said Sheikh Mohamed Farah Ali al-Azhari, head of the Somali government’s rehabilitation centres.

The government's emphasis on its rehabilitation programme comes as al-Shabaab faces increasing internal struggles following last month's battle in Barawe and the subsequent killing of second-in-command Ibrahim al-Afghani.

good on culusoow, that is the right thing to do most of these alshabaab members were recruited at a very young age with the promise of paradise if they conducted x amount qarxis. This will encourage other hard headed youths members of alshabaab to question what they are doing, and gives assurance that the government is there to help them fully adapt to life after alshabaab
