Ethiopia tweaks the numbers even the IMF admits. The Economist once called them “one of the most economically illiterate in the modern world.”

in 2010, Meles Zenawi forecasted an 11 percent growth in 2011 and sanguinely opined that a 14.9 percent economic growth for Ethiopia over the next five years is “not unimaginable”. In 2011, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) artfully disagreed concluding, “Strong growth [in Ethiopia] has continued in 2010/11 that the mission estimates at 7.5 percent (compared to an official estimate of 11.4 percent)…. The mission sees lower growth for 2011/12, at about 6 percent, on account of high inflation, restrictions on private bank lending, and a more difficult business environment (parentheses original).” The World Bank similarly concluded that year “Ethiopia’s dependence on foreign capital to finance budget deficits and a five-year investment plan is unsustainable…”

Ethiopia is growing at 5.5 percent like most sub-Saharan countries.Its poorly governed which is why it will remain poor, don't let the infrastructure boom skew you from appreciating the over-all economy of the country. Its will remain a donor darling as long as the TPLF governs as it now does.

Is true Ethiopian citizens can't own land and that all land, including farms, belong to the government? Anyway I have never seen as much poverty than what I have seen in Ethiopia. Even people in war torn Somalia have a better living standard than the average Ethiopian.

Ethiopia is a blessed land and Somalia will never be anywhere near it. What you haters trying to portray here know it well its not the full picture. Ethiopia had poverty problems like the rest of Sub-Sahara Africa but it is the only country that is getting out off poverty while the others are going in the opposite direction.

Ethiopia is an empire and you can't compare it to the sub-clan myriads states of Somalia's many tribes. Ethiopia has an economy of $42 billion while Somalia is not even $1 billion. Fokin useless.
