I am also a Dog person. Even though I can never have one, its Haram. If I could have a dog, it will be a Golden Retriever.
Dogs are naturally--Kind, affectionate, loyal, unselfish, protective, companion, but they do carry a lot of germs in their mouth which is probably Why Alaaah swt has forbidden it.

Basra, you can have a dog, as long as you're keeping it outdoors, and completely avioding its mouth and wet fur. I'm get a dogo argentina some time in the near future.

Cats are cool interesting creatures, along with the other domesticated animals they are easier to get along with than some humans.
