Solutions for African politics!

Post by BigBreak »

Bad Governance and lack of Inclusivity are hampering Africa' chance of reaching their potential development in all walks of life. Obviously politics in each country in Africa is not sufficient due to tribalism, nepotism, dictatorship hard or soft etc. and this is the root cause of the continent lagging behind other continents. In my opinion, Africa should be encouraged to see a multi-polar order is emerging and that now China shows there is another way to develop which is not western.

Back to Africa, the way to make each country develop is to adopt the following:

1. Have an odd number of political parties between 3 and 7 and each party should have a national character
2. Each party should view other parties as allies not enemies in order to bring about a wider sense of social unity
3. Each party should be forced to take a political spectrum test and convey their message easily to the people
4. Subnational elections should be run strictly by independent candidates only
5. Separation of powers, decentralization and direct democracy is required
6. For some countries like DRC and Somalia, their should be an ethnic/tribal power sharing pact for a limited time

What do you think, stay on topic!

The reason why Africa is lagging behind other continents in regards to governance (but of course not only limited to governance) is because of cultural differences. Other people appreciate the seriousness of corruption and working for the citizens. Africans don't.

Africans need to understand that if you are in politics, you are there to serve the public. Public office doesn't give you the mandate to help yourself to government funds to increase your own living standards. This also applies to the bureaucrats in public administration. If you want to make millions of dollars, go into private industry.

Sometimes I wonder what goes on in the minds of African politicians. You have millions of your people either starving to death or living in substandard living conditions or ruling a nation where the majority of people are illiterate and have no access to medical facilities and you are pocketing millions of dollars in government funds that was meant to improve those very lives.

Africans have the most inferior culture. I was just reading an online paper just now that a woman had to force her husband to step down from his lobbying position because there was a conflict of interest. She was recently hired for the Defense Department and her husband worked for a defense lobbying group. Would he be told to step down if this were in Africa? Absolutely not.

Inferior culture? --- Africa is not a country? lol. I'm not saying that onus isn't on them, but you seem to be forgetting that the continent is not free of outside influences or hidden hands. Corruption and misappropriation of government funds not only benefits individual persons or a few groups, it also is great for foreign industries that subtlety control them. Sure a little figure head might get a 100 million for his oil but multinational corporations walk-away with a trillion. There is a lack of human capital due to brain drain, and even then there are so few of them to begin with, in addition they do not have the ability to harvest their own resources. Pettiness also exists and no doubt nepotism. Also, most African countries are mono economies - meaning their economy heavily relies on mining, agriculture and small scale production of single cash crops, in other words, a lack of industrialization
