northern dialect is confined up north and you would know where that person is from, but this dialect is widely spoken by somalis from all over the country, from bari to gedo. plus it is adopted by the somali media.

channels such as SNTV, somali channel, universal tv and somalisat speak in this dialect. even though universal and SNTV are based in mogadishu.

Lamberti (1986, p. 31) "states that the Darood dialects from the Mudug region and the
western parts of the Somali areas, i.e. Ogaden in Ethiopia, became the benchmark for
the form of language in school textbooks and broadcasting. These dialects are spoken
by a large number of Somalis, and are understood and spoken by other Somalis, even
though their own dialect belongs to a different dialect group"

somali schools official dialect was that from the region of mudug

We northerners don't speak in that accent, nor is it used in our schools or media, and just to clarify your claims why is the waqooyi accent used when somali people sing regardless of which region they hail from?
