British accent in the media

Why do US news media channels employ people with British accents as journalists or anchors? Even Canadian media has been doing this. Is this accent supposed to be professional? I can understand for international news but why for national news channels?

I am assuming they immigrated and applied for the job since these guys are not big name ppl apart from that big mouth who took over Larry Kings slot

what's next? British announcers in the Superbowl? Regular NHL season? They are already taking over the Weather Network
