The dialect switch-up game

Post by BlackVelvet »

We've got 3 main dialects represented here on SNet: Af Nooh, Af Ad-adeeg, Af Dee

Marka it goes like this, each category writes down a paragraph (a few lines) which contain all their hardcore words that are quintessentially them. Then those not from the region record themselves reading out said paragraph

For example reer Nooh: This is the first draft of our pragraph.

I think it should contain the words: Bushkuleeti, Okiyaalo, Armaajo, Musqul, Abkoow, Mandhoow/eey etc. We write one sentence each, each containing as many Nooh words as possible then when it's complete, reer Dee or Ad Adeeg can record themselves trying to read it. They have to pronounce all the R's and we have to pronounce the Dh's

So first line of our story goes:

1. Ewelki hore waxaa jiri jirte gabar yar, magaceedi moxoo ahay Isnineey.

Let the games begin. make it as difficult for them as possible

Geo I think north of Hiiraan, I don't think anyone here speaks a proper reer Hiiran dialect but it would still count as Nooh. All the way up to the point where people start saying Dee and switching R with Dh. So I know Mudug/Galgaduud - Nugaal/Bari/Togdheer I am not sure where they fall. The people who are from there can decide. That is Af Ad Adeeg.

I thought bajaq meant gay. Once, my friend pointed out someone from a crowd of people and said, "blimey! look at that bajaq". I turned around shocked and asked him if he was gay. We has a few fists full of words with each other and laughed about the misunderstanding in the hospital.

Even in af Nooh a masculine noun doesn't suddenly become feminine.

You can't correct your team mate's grammar, you have to brave on.

btw the grammar is not incorrect. Ewelki hore, that is one part of the sentence, waxaa jiri jirte is in reference to the gabar yar. Marka mandhoow aan kuu duceeye sii wad sheekada.
