The only thing I didn't like was his russian socialist ideology that he brought from Russia, this man was ruthless, he killed a lot of the opposition and massacred many majarteen and isaaqs. He played clever with clans although he said all somalis were one, he was a qablilist.

So why did he build everywhere except his home region?

Dervish and HanadMN respect. I hate when some groups say this wasn't built, that wasn't built. The lat government pretty much focused the poor countries development near where it can build beginning industry.

AUN Mohamed Siad Barre. Even though he was a ruthless dictator, he got many things right and he was no tribalist as people like to portray him. Everyone who refused to embraced his socialist doctrine used the qabil as an excuse to distant him rather than saying they didn't like the man for his political dogma, principles..etc.
In his last years he turned qabiliste in order to survive....by that time he felt like a caged animal. The man did not even leave a cent behind for his own son let alone Marehan clan...the whole Somalia collapsed with him and he is guilty of greed more than anything.

Go back to sleep. He's the one that caused the somali conflict from day 1. He's still responsible. Of whats happening today.
you say that people should've embraced socialism? Why on earth would somali's be ruled under some trashy ideology he got brainwashed in at Russia?
when presidents set a legacy that is right and fair, the leaders after follow the same example. Unfortunately he set a dark legacy therefore Mahdi, abdullahi yusuf followed his legacy too. A leader should set an example. Siad set a bad one, so others follow.

Was executing 10 defenseless and unarmed sheikhs one of the things he got right?Hawdian wrote:AUN Mohamed Siad Barre. Even though he was a ruthless dictator, he got many things right and he was no tribalist as people like to portray him.

Walaalayaal he made million mistakes. The guy was a socialist Godless dictator but he also got many things right. I don't consider Siad Barre qabiliste but the most greediest man ever in the history of Somalia. I just wish he wasn't as greedy he was and he didn't focus so much of the resources only in Mogadishu. Had he distributed the wealth, created balanced development and had he gotten off that seat after 20 years, today he would be remembered as an African hero.
He was a smart man. He got many things right including weakening Ethiopia by funding TPLF and EPLF. Because of his long term goals in Ethiopia, Eritrea broke away which weakened Ethiopia, made Djibouti wealthy (no port) and Somali Region has great freedom because Amhara are kept at bay by the Tigray whom Siad Barre supported and saw something in them that he couldnt find in the Oromo.
Over all he was a genius man.
