Two teens in a North York double shooting have died, police tell CityNews.
One of the teens, whom police identified as 16-year-old O’She Doyles-Whyte, died at the scene Friday afternoon outside a townhouse development on Grandravine Drive, near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue West.
The second youth, Kwame Duodu, 17, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died later in hospital.
Whyte had arrived on his bike moments earlier to visit a friend, neighbours said.
Resident Alicia Bartholonew told CityNews that she heard a few shots that she thought were firecrackers.
“It’s when I heard the ambulance and when I heard a lady crying when I decided to look out my window,” she said. “It was really heartbreaking.”
“He was a nice child, very loving. He wasn’t a troubled child,” she added.
There was no immediate word on suspects.
Officials from Toronto Community Housing, which owns the Yorkwoods Village housing complex, issued condolences to the victims’ family and friends.
“We are angered and saddened” by the deaths, CEO Gene Jones said in the release.
The public housing agency said it was working closely with Toronto police to assist them with their investigation and urged anyone with information to contact them.
Police are looking for two suspects described as Somalian descent.
