Will Kenya pull out of Somalia?
First of all I want to send my condolences to the families and friends of the innocent and invaluable lives that were so tragically and most brutally killed in the recent attack in West Gate mall.
Going past that, I want to discuss the repercussions it will have on Kenya's policies. Especially their current Amisom involvement in Somalia.

No, less than a hundred people died. It took Spain at least two hundred deaths and the PP party losing the election before they pulled out of Iraq.

If Kenya wasn't being used as a proxy, then yes, they would have pulled out. But their military is trained and financed by the West so unless their masters want to pull out they won't.

There Masters already wants them out by replacing them with Ethiopia, And then U.N.ElfRuler0 wrote:If Kenya wasn't being used as a proxy, then yes, they would have pulled out. But their military is trained and financed by the West so unless their masters want to pull out they won't.

Re: Will Kenya pull out of Somalia?
Kenya going in was totally their idea, and most of the Western powers were against it, it is only after they were in for months that they joined Amisom almost as an after thought. They joined because they realized they can get their plans done and do it with almost no cost.
Now they are in a quagmire considering they are the most powerful force in southern Somalia holding alshabab at bay there, which is seriously inhibiting alshabab. The West knows and I think they will be pressured not to leave more than ever now. Then there is Kenyatta who is in his first term, a defining moment for this newer breed of younger and educated leaders, and I think he will try to meet this head on. But this will come at a high cost. Right now patriotism and nationalism will call yo stand firm, but one more hit and the tourist economy will get hit so hard that there will be internal pressure to leave Somalia far alone.

Ethiopia signed under the agreement between jubba, and the gov't. meaning they will make sure it is keeped. so Kismayo is offciale handed over to them now and Kenya has to pack and leave its already signed.Perfect_Order wrote:Kenya going in was totally their idea, and most of the Western powers were against it, it is only after they were in for months that they joined Amisom almost as an after thought. No they won't pull out and barre hiraale aka marathon runner won't be coming back to kista..
Re: Will Kenya pull out of Somalia?
If you want Kenya to pull out you need to defeat their troops in the battlefield.. but we know the shabab can't do this that's why you see them doing desperate suicide attacks like the Westgate attack..

I believe the opposition of Kenya has an opportunity to grasp. They must leave Somalia.. Otherwise they will face easy but heavy attacks from these terrorist...
If I were the leader of Kenya.. I pursue an exit strategy tonight... I can't take these terrorist attacks anymore...

Re: Will Kenya pull out of Somalia?
All I know is Kenya is dependent on tourism and Al Shabaab attack will damage that considerably with Westgate. As long as KDF is in Somalia, they will be considered an enemy by Al Shabaab cells.
Right now Shabaab is defeated in conventional war and are resorting to assymetric warfare. Kenya cannot easily stop another Westgate from happening even if they totally defeat Al Shabab in battlefield. Al Shabaab is an ideology and not an army. They will melt away as they have.
I think many in Kenya's parliament and democratic political process will see a need for Kenya to remove its troops and cease the main reason for Shabaab targeting Kenyan soil.
