Zeytuun Fruit.

Minutes ago, i found out what i knew as zeytuun aint zeytuun at all.
I always thought that the GUAVA fruit was called zeytuun in Somali. :|




what is this fruit called in Somali?

We all called this fruit Zeytuun...But we found out that Zeytuun is actually the Olives...

When we used to read: Wa zeytuuni, waduuri ziniin..I always thought that was the guava... :lol:

I don't know in Somali but Arabic also we call it guava.

So what if thats what it means in Arabic? Same words can have different meanings in different parts of the world.

i like the way you look on this. you right, so what, if arabic call it on oilive somalis call it on guava.
is not something moqadas, just name for fruit. in my opinion, there isno right or wrong name. you call guava i call zaitun.

This sort of thing happens in different regions of Somalia. For instance, Northerners (Waqooyi Galbeed) call suugo (for spaghetti) maraq, while Southies call it proper suugo (from Italian sugo).

It's confusing and unoriginal to have two fruits of the same name. That's what's wrong with it.

I know landers say Xabxab for Watermelon (xabxab is arabic) whilst we say Qare.

Well Zeytuun is Olive in the Qur'an too...you can see the confusion it caused when you read kambuli's post.
