Sitting in or driving a car for long periods or on a continuous basis is harmful, both physiologically and psychologically. Man wasn't created for such a condition. I'm sure there are many studies done on the physics of driving. There's the element of vibration, internal organs moving up/down, stress and other conditions involved in driving. Astronauts go through training, rehabilitation and conditioning before and after their missions, to limit or offset vibrations and other physical conditions. Imagine the small doses of vibrations and other physical conditions that longtime drivers (like cabdrivers, truck drivers, etc) undergo throughout every year. So, I would be cautious about driving or sitting in a car for long periods. Instead, I would encourage walking more.
