Black gold struck in the outskirts of Mogadishu? .

Post by barbarossa »

The following links contains a piece of news pertaining to a little known, Calgary based oil company, and its claim that it has reached a deal with Somali government, to obtain the rights to a couple of old existing blocks on the coast, South of Mogadishu. It estimates that this area has a potential to contain, at least billion barrels worth of oil, and perhaps, as many as 5 billion. Does anybody buy this, or is this, yet, another greedy, dubious, Western oil firm, exploiting a corrupted, poor nation, desperate enough to be easily duped into believing anything, no matter how far fetched, it may seem? I, personally, remain skeptical about this, but hope and pray to be proven wrong.

I am more curious to know what this means for companies such as African OIl, Horn Petroluem corp as well genel in Somaliland. If this article is of any indication, we will soon fine several disgruntled puntlanders and somalilanders, that may want to spoil the party. Article clearly states that this company( Kilimanjaro) gets priority to the same oil blocks already awarded to ( Genel, HPC, African Oil) by the Puntland and Somaliland administration.

ugh, Somalia...I love you an all. But once again, bad politics at work.

But uliimately, the contracts signed by the federal government are the only contracts that are to the benefit of the Somali people. Puntland signed one of the worst contracts.
