Quebec charter of values

Post by zulaika »

Parti québécois crusade to separate state from unwanted religions is never ending. Far from La Charte canadienne des droits et libertés...this highly divisive charter calls for all public service workers to be fired if they wear religious symbols, headscarf, turban, yamaka.

I mean it is apparent this is aimed mainly at Muslims, why drag other religions into the fray? I lived in Montreal for many years and there a lot of Jews in religious gear; and just as much if not more then other faith and I'd love to see how they aim to remove yamaka wearing doctors from hospitals.

Charter will likely not go into legislation as it is being received with condemnation in the scathing of terms by most Canadians, but surprisingly there are Muslim groups who support this; Muslims who are repulsed by the very sight of anything Islamic. cajiib, meal-ticket munaafaqs

Canada is so backward. God! I would never live there. Waa tuulo dhimatay in every sense. No wonder Somalis who come from there and are in the states seem to be on Prozac.

I was listening to Rex Murphy on the radio, and the mayor of a Quebec city whose name I forget called in and explained that this all began because of a Christian/Catholic prayer before a city council meeting. A Jewish event in Mtl where the men refused to served by women was another catalyst.

I think "most Canadians" is a tough statement to make and can be inferred that it's a vast majority that is openly against the charter. The margins are smaller than people would probably assume.

Quebec believes it is Europe, wherein they're facing an influx of immigrants. Combined with the shrinking population issue they've had for decades now, any program to protect whatever culture exists will be put in place. Silly enough, there's a giant cross in their National Assembly.

They're looking for a problem where there is none. Though this is a complex issue, I think.

Ahh! Yes. Quebec. The only place in the world with a language police.

It's the internet; everyone's a bigot.

But yes, Canada has its share of racists. Our history is rife with it. This divisiveness isn't surprising, just unfortunate. And when you hear rational and intelligent people call into CBC with logical and sound arguments... well, we'll see what comes of it.

Well said. If your media is anything like the retards in the States then all logical and sound arguments will probably be swept under the carpet, only to slowly fade away from the nation's consciousness.

Not what I meant. We have university professors and former politicians sitting across from their colleagues in a civil discussion, raising points for and against this charter. Highly educated people who actually see a benefit - or reasonable intent.

We've got OK-ish media up here, I think. Mostly.

Naked ladies intrupted the premier yesterday in an attempt to showcase her hypocrisy bc the parliament has the cross and other religious symbols. Yet they are saying they won't remove it bc it's a matter of cultural heritage. Waa blatant disregard for civility Abd tolerance

I think this is one of the few issues that the States handles a lot better than Canada. If Parti Quebecois even dared to pull a move like this down south, they'd be shut down on the basis that what they're doing is unconstitutional (freedom of religion). But then again, banning the use of assault rifles for "personal use" over there is also unconstitutional

This will probably head to Supreme Court. We have our laws as well.

And you can own an "assault rifle" up here. Just need the papers.

Still shouldn't have to head to Supreme Court. If Quebec doesn't want to abide by the Charter, why should they be part of Canada?
