Homeless among the Somali Community
Growing up in my days, I've witnessed little to no Somali homeless and/or street beggers, but after high school and currently in college, I've noticed a handful of my peers and fellow classmates, begging on the street. This is really an epidemic in my community, its as if they have this mentality, if all else fails, I'll just go ahead and give up on life. I always try to encourage them instead of giving them a dollar or two and making it easier for them to continue the abnormal lifestyle they've chosen, what can we do as a whole to help these people ?

Re: Homeless among the Somali Community
Homelessness? Don't we have qabiils to give us homes or something?
Re: Homeless among the Somali Community
That's what I'm talking about
The messed thing here is, the Somali community don't see this problem as their problem but more so an individual issue, how do you think we can convince junkie to give up life on the streets and commit living in a shelter until he/she gets they're life on track ?

Marques, qabiil lines end when you steal from your tol and have no respect for anyone including yourself.

I only ever met one homeless Somali guy. I don't know about preventative solutions but in Australia (and I think UK), MercyMission has a nationalized ZakatFund to help local Muslims that are needy.

Re: Homeless among the Somali Community
thats unfortunate predicament, don't the government have some shelters where they could place these homeless people, where am at i have never seen point blank (homeless people, but beggers yes in town who are non white most of them with disabilities).
Re: Homeless among the Somali Community
I'm still shocked you mentioned your classmates being homeless. I thought it was bad enough seeing old senile Somali men who topped themselves with khat and booze wandering aimlessly on the streets (they're a lost cause because they were never under anyone elses responsibility) but young guns doing this too? The problem with the young folks is that, most of them came to the states under the supervision of their older siblings whether it be a sister or a brother, and once they can't keep them in line, farahaa ayee kala baxaan, in a way I guess its easier for a sibling to wipe their hands clean with no remorse. A parent in the other hand won't give up so easily.Marques wrote:I'm still shocked you mentioned your classmates being homeless. Re: Homeless among the Somali Community
I know one homeless Somali. He became mental after getting bottled in a club. He's been homeless for 10+ years. His parents kicked him out after they couldn't handle his medical issue. But I don't sympathize with him anymore. He tried to rob my $20 once in my hand while I was in line buying some Subway.
