Tahriib epidemic

Post by LiquidHYDROGEN »

A few days ago I heard the case of a young woman who left her family in Hargeisa. She was married with 2 kids and in her mid twenties. Now this woman came from a wealthy business family and clearly was not desperate or impoverished. One day she said she was visiting a friends house and was never seen again. She called months later saying she was in Chad and that she was crossing into Libya. When asked why the hell she was doing this, she replied she "had to go to Europe". Her family never heard from her again. Her parents are apparently distraught and sick with worry. And you can imagine what her husband is going through.

My question is this, what is being done by this government to tackle this problem? What do you guys suggest should be done to prevent these kinds of ridiculous situations?t Clearly it's nothing to do with wealth since this woman was wealthy and a lot of people who arrive in the west just sit on their arses and claim benefits.

Reminds of the Somali movies (isma qabato) which had the same story line.
She abandons her kids and husband to reach WESTIGA via boat/tahriib.

very good topic. i had my young brother attempt tahriib multiple times, laakin dhexda ayaa laga soo qabtay. Tahriib is a very very serious problem and i can say the government doesnt give a shidh. These people back home mentally believe the west is heaven on earth. Wallahi i rather live in a villa in hargeisa in peace with dhawr hablood lookin after me rather than this 9-5 crazy western lifestyle. The problem is mixture of government, stupid mentality, and even the qurba joogs could do much better to tacke tahriib. We need to start campaigning, Imagine if we all sacraficed a week of our lives every year or two for volunteer work back home, specially telling those kids that its not worth it

Somalia is crap regardless if your rich or poor. And the locals realize how crappy it is once their cousins in NA and Europe post pictures of their life on FB

I know a guy whose mother is one of the biggest gold sellers in Hargeisa and he's sitting beside me right now. These people want to live Western life. Being a millionaire in Mogadishu or Hargeisa wont do much other than having a big house or a nice car and slaughtering a goat everyday. Its not always about the money

They're not doing anything. Shacabkaan u adeegeyna baa ka soo hadhay but what shacab? Ma kuwa badda mediterranean-ka ku madhey mise kuwa Bantuuda madow iyo Carabta kudaafada ay Saxaraha ku dhex kufsaneyaan? They need to fix the socio-economic problems. They must create job opportunities. University graduates should get the chance to take part in the leadership of their country. They have to work with neighboring countries and regional administrations like the one in deegaanka Somalida ee Itoobiya. They need to inform the masses specifically the youth about Tahriib and the problems associated with it. Not to forget dadku iney iimaan yeeshaan.

The qurba joog are also a big problem. Kii caydha ku noola ayaa markuu madaarka ka soo dego iska dhigeya waxaanu aheyn. Iyaguna waa inay dadka ay soo booqaneyaan ka xishoodaan.

The irony is a lot of Somalis in the diaspora are already going back home. I don't know how dumb a person has to be to be influenced by FB posts and pictures. These people have been told countless times the west isn't the promised land of milk and honey and has it's own problems.

Somalis on benefits in Europe act like they are upper class aristocrats with all the wealth of the queen and country, so the locals are mislead and believe Europe is portal to jannah.

It is not about poverty but kibir. The $1000 or $2000 they are using for a useless tahriib they can use it to open a stall where
they sell things. A couple of weeks back I had someone living in Gabiley telling me they will tahriib, when I asked them what reason?
They said because their friends included them in  . I was so angry that I warned them if you attempt it I will contact the JSL
anti tahriib authority to lock you and your friends up. The solution is snitch on them if you know anybody trying to do tahriib illegally
and in a dangerous way.

Thank you abdi.ismail for bringing this up.

This problem will only decrease once life is improved for everyone. People tahrib even if they have 3 meals a day and roof over their head. Since life wont be improved for the masses anytime soon, the government and mamuls should fight the people who organize tahrib trips like enemies of the state. This is the only way I see this tahrib issue decreasing.
