How do you define success?
It seems as though many view someone as being successful in life once they have a large home, receive a large regular paycheck, have a "respectable" job, and have a family. It seems to me as though society's view on success is coloured by materialism.
I'm curious as to how other people view success and what they hope to achieve. So how do you define success?
I think achieving inner peace and reaching a point where you feel generally satisfied with your life means that you've probably succeeded, as long as their basic needs are met and they don't have a dangerous or unhealthy lifestyle. Personally, I would need to feel as though I'm making a difference in the world and be able to provide for my parents as well as feeling constantly connected with God and religiousness in order to feel as though I've succeeded.

-Leaving a legacy. This could be raising up righteous children (if you are blessed with them) that become productive members of society or something of a larger scale.
-Striving for your best.
-Contentment as AgentOfChaos mentioned, although having shiny, expensive thing helps along the way.

lol Nothing wrong with having some shiny, expensive things as long as one tries not to be materialistic. With that said, I'll be really upset if I don't have a fabulous library in my future home.

Success on a micro level or macro level? Micro is all the wordly things you mentioned like gainful employment, property, expensive/nice things, even having a spouse and kids. On a macro level, I'd say as a Muslim, practicing the diin and following the sunnah. This dunya is a test at the end of the day, thus fulfilling our [religious] purpose in life would make one successful.

All jokes aside...the older I get the more I come to understand that succes comes with being closer to Allah..secondly, it's important to have dignity..hard work and looking after your family by striving to set them on the right course by providing for them and working hustling to make money...and keeping away from gossiping, getting involved in Somali fedeexo of the day..have u noticed Somali love to enjoy the calamity of another Somali specially when couple divorce.

Doing what I am supposed to be doing and what I want to be doing. Success is not a destination, it's a journey.
