Re: Swiss granting unconditional minimum income of $2750/mon
People around the world stash money in Swiss banks and it sits there collecting interest and being used in stock, bonds, and money markets making even more. The money is just not sitting there doing nothing.
When Sani Abacha died, the Swiss banks returned $700 million back to Nigeria when it was obvious he stole more than that. How much did the Swiss bank keep from what was sent there and how much more money are they making off of it? Its a big game.
If you stumbled upon $50 million...you are not stashing it in the US...that shyt is going to the Cayman Islands or Switzerland. They don't care how or where you got the money from.
At this point, the Swiss government are looking at their money statements from their banks like
Sitting on so much money they don't know what to do with it, so they figured why not just give some to the people...

Rightwing, since you where there for a while, do you think it will lead to more economic productivity?

Here's a deal: Each month the Swiss government will send every adult a check for about 2,500 swiss francs (roughly $2,750) — no matter their need or income.
At least, that's the proposal before the Swiss people.
In response to growing economic inequality, a grassroots movement in Switzerland collected the 100,000 signatures needed to secure a national referendum on their basic income proposal. Swiss law states any petition that receives at least 100,000 signatures will be voted on nationally.
"It is not as kooky as it sounds," says Karl Widerquist, a Georgetown University professor who has researched basic income policy for a decade. "It's the idea of putting a floor under people's income, the idea that income doesn't have to start at zero."
Basic income is a social security system in which the government regularly gives each citizen a sum of money — with no conditions.
Widerquist points to one example of a similar system here in the United States. With Alaska's Permanent Fund Dividend, the government divides up some of the state's yearly oil revenue and gives a portion to each resident. The amount fluctuates year to year, from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand.
But the proposed measure in Switzerland would be much greater, adding up to more than $30,000 in guaranteed annual income for each adult.
In recent studies in Africa and India, Widerquist said giving people unconditional monetary gifts often increases labor.
"A basic income, in a way, frees you to improve your skills and your efforts and do something that actually makes a bigger contribution to economy," he says.
No date has been set for the national referendum on Switzerland's guaranteed income proposal.

The article is right. Switzerland offer some of best quality of life anywhere in the world but it's most expensive countries in Europe.

By moving here in UK I got what I wanted (my mother, British degree and semi-detached house) but I lost what I had e.g. decent job and best quality of life. I am planning to go back mid summer insha allah.Cherine wrote:Wow 17 years Rightwing. Londonta qudhuntay maxaa ku keenay?

Wow will they really pull it off?
Basic Income Gaurentee has allot of research behind it, both theoretical and practical.
It is more efficient than welfare and will boost the economy.
research done by an NGO with their private funds produced amazing results in a Namibian village of 2000 people.
It went on for a year, but in that their unemployment was shrunk to single digits , when over 60% of the village was unemployed.
and allot of small businesses sprouted.
imagine the effects on a country!!!!

There was actually a large community of Somalis in Swizerland in the early 90s. Skinnies biggest mistake was to move to the UK in droves when Germany, Holland, Scandinavia and other nations they resided in had a much better quality of life.

Is it not just the minimum wage being raised ? I don't know, seems like its just that and not a big deal, that country is probably also hella expensive to live in, from rent to bills etc.

over 90% of Somalis from Scandinavia have returned, majority of those who returned now hate the UK, the few who stayed did so because of University, but even they are starting to return, 2014 UK is back to normal, with Somali Brits and Hoelanders.Colonel wrote:There was actually a large community of Somalis in Swizerland in the early 90s. Re: Swiss granting unconditional minimum income of $2750/mon
Why should they give anyone their dhalasho? They are a small country not like the U.S or U.K that means it would get swamped in no time. Very good policy ...much like the Arabian Gulf countries.

quit trolling my topic. there were somalis from many clans who left the country before the war. Yes, you had to be privileged or connected to someone in the diaspora but it wasn't exclusive to one clan.jamal9 wrote:
