Why haven't we got any trains ?
compared to laying roads, laying train tracks is far cheaper, faster and more appropriate given our level of development. The train is a powerful export machine, and considering our dependence on livestock export it an is essential infrastructure that we just must have.
Somali livestock can easily be loaded up every season on trains and transported to a chosen port unharmed and relatively easy, cheap to transport, instead of the trucks and bad roads we currently use.
I suggest a train line that transverse the Somali region in ethiopia where there are most livestock, I don't know why Siyad Barre didn't build this to be honest, his focus was to take Somalis away from livestock and more into farming which is why he focused on south more, but it is time to focus on livestock as this is the main occupations of millions and a relatively good life style, we just need to help the geeljire by making the transportation and export easier and more profitable.

Motherfarax, trains needs brains. Besides, what if shabab takes over a train. Only denzel can save that. What if somaliland takes over a train. For sure, that train aint coming back. What if pirates come on board. What if khatumo takes over a carriage.they will have a party inside. What if sheikh shariff goes on holiday. There are endless hurdles and obstacles you haven't considered. Brother, I suggest you help us build some musqul which you can sit down and use your phone.

^^^^ LOOOOOOOL
Who is going to lay the tracks? who will teach us how to work the signals? How will you explain to a tribe that a train will be running through their city? will you bribe them into agreeing with? you cant provide secuity personal along the tracks from one city to another. Who is going to maintain these trains? like basto points out somalia is too unstable to have trains. Also terrorist might strike the train in the open far from aid agencies and you could have a huge number of innocent lives lost along with livestock. I think trains and rail way stations should be the last thing we build in Somalia. Just too much work

Inshallah in the future Somalia can build train lines.
From Mogadishu to Beledweyne
From Mogadishu to Kismayo
From Mogadishu to Baidoa
Building rail lines isn't that expensive, all of the lines have to be centered towards Mogadishu. So that the capital can service the regions via its port and export goods from the interior.

Because these are the rich and productive area's of Somalia, rich in natural resources and very high in demographics. Building a rail line in other parts of Somalia wouldn't make sense because it wouldn't be economically viable. We can push it up in Dhusumeerab and Galkayo since this region is rich in minerals but further north would be pointless.saacJabshee wrote:Why only violent cities?SomaliDefenceCouncil wrote:Inshallah in the future Somalia can build train lines.

Re: Why haven't we got any trains ?
Theres a train line that was built by the early colonist Italian Duke between Xamar and Jowhar to export his fruit. I think this was about 130km.
Actually in the late 80s the regime wanted to restart the lines and stations (About 10 in the south) however the hawiye war started.
I think Trains are a viable option in Somalia but we should start small scale. However i'm sure we'll see a network in the next decades.
Do do realize the entirety of Galguduud is semi arid and other parts in the south, your stupid statements won't be tolerated ?

Those violent cities are nice and green. You could shift vegatables and fruits to northern cities by train as well. Dont know what would come down from northern cities to violent south. We need the violence to stop in the south ruunti. It holds so much for us but no one can get to it.SomaliDefenceCouncil wrote:Because these are the rich and productive area's of Somalia, rich in natural resources and very high in demographics. Re: Why haven't we got any trains ?
You see this is why I wanted every major city and region in the south to be very connected to Mogadishu viva a rail network service, so that we could efficiently export Somalia's goods via Mogadishu port habour cheaply and quickly, generating Somalia much needed hard foreign currency. Money which could be re-invested back towards maintaining the rail service and importing technology and machinery into the country.saacJabshee wrote:

Re: Why haven't we got any trains ?
The dark corners of Africa are devoid of any rail systems. Somalia, Madagascar, Mali, Chad, Niger and CAR....it's painful to see us in that list which translates to dhulalkii aduunka nacay
