Dear Me (SomaliNet version)

Post by InaSamaale »

What would you tell your sixteen year old self in a letter? Are there things that you wish you would have done or not done ? Knowledge you found out in later life that you would have appreciated knowing at sixteen? :)

Dear me,

What if I told you that in 6 years, you'd be booking trips to Thailand and D.C.? What if I told you, you would be applying for graduation in 2 days? What if I told you would be meeting Dr. Cornel West, Michelle Alexander, Michael Moore, and Talib Kweli? What if I told you, you would be so proud of the person you're becoming? That your life is entirely your own. That you've always been good enough, smart enough, and capable? What if I told you that you would make it? What if I told you that the life you couldn't possibly imagine being this exciting, this fulfilling and this simple is actually yours?

I'm so happy you're me and I'm you. I take so much pride in who you are right now. Keep your heart as pristine as it is now. Keep your gaze lowered and avoid boys. I love your innocence. You don't ever have to change. Please keep away from desolate souls in search of meaning. Your job isn't to save anyone. You're on the right track, so please don't let those dressed in sheep's clothing deter your journey.

Love,

Your better self, everything is making sense self.

Dear Abdiwahab at 16,

I am sure that you are passionate about changing the world and combating injustice but you can not change the world. Humans are foul, ungrateful animals who only respond to brute strength and $$. Do not join any political movement but focus on the pursuit of your own self interest and collect every single $ you can get. Remember, money is the only thing in the world that can make the ugly look attractive and the ignoble seem noble. At the end of the day, all humans are the same. We pursue our narrow interests. We look for ways to get more money, power and sex.

As for women, they are all the same. You will never find the "one" so just focus on stacking up your paper and breeding with the best looking women your money can attract.

Sincerely,

Yourself +2*

asalamu alaikum warahmatuAllahi wa barakatu,

you are such a stupid head not only thinking to marry but worse to marry 2,3 and 4 wives! no one on earth worth that headache , energy and sacrifices. you did very well over coming that devil thought and all praise to Allah. things will get better and better , all you have to do is get close to God. this life is very cheap and its given to the good and bad to kafir and mu'min. As allah almighty said in surat mohammed ayah 36:

إِنَّمَا الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ وَإِنْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَتَتَّقُوا يُؤْتِكُمْ أُجُورَكُمْ وَلَا يَسْأَلْكُمْ أَمْوَالَكُمْ
The life of this world is but play and amusement: and if you believe and guard against Evil, He will grant you your recompense, and will not be asked about your possessions.

Also God gives best of thos life and hereafter, who fears Him (belgayb)to do wrong when no one sees you but Him

as Allah said in the quran ; ala3raf, ayat 128 and alqasas ayah 28:

قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ اسْتَعِينُوا بِاللَّهِ وَاصْبِرُوا إِنَّ الْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ يُورِثُهَا مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ وَالْعَاقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَق.
Said Moses to his people: "Pray for help from Allah, and wait in patience and constancy: for the earth is Allah's, to give as a heritage to such of His servants as He pleaseth; and the end is best for the righteous.

That Home of the Hereafter We shall give to those who intend not high-handedness or mischief on earth: and the end is (best) for the righteous.

والسلام على من اتبع الهدى وخشية الرحمن بالغيب

sincerely,

hyper at 22.

Dear younger self,

First off I'm talking to you from the future and no, warp drive and StarFleet hasn't been created yet, humanity still sucks for most part. Oh btw, Royler Gracie lost the fight in '99 so don't make that bet, and while you're at it if you could not start smoking, that would be great, your older self would really appreciate it. Where do I start, well that gaping hole in your heart left by the death of your parents will never be filled, but don't worry it will hurt less and less as years go by and eventually you'll be numb to it and nothing will faze you any more, so that's good. I know what you're thinking right now, and the answer is no the Zombies haven't stormed the world yet, I'm talking about serious stuff here so could you please focus for 5 minutes here, geez! So listen up, don't talk to Sarah she is bad for you, don't give me that puppy eyes look, this is only for your own good so stay away from her. On that note, here is lesson that took me a long time to learn, could you please stop taking chances and falling so hard for girls or you will end with broken heart held together by duct tape, because life's lessons will repeat itself UNTIL learned, so get that lesson through your thick skull quickly and get your shit together asshole!

I know you have good grades in high school without ever studying for it, but the B and the occasional A in exams doesn't mean shit in college and won't get you into good university, so study hard douchebag! I know this is the year you'll quit drawing your silly little stick figures for many years to come because you think you will never be good at it, but don't quit just yet young one, you'll eventually become pretty decent painter. Don't believe me? Take a look. No you asshole you won't become professional painter, this is just a hobby that will safe you lots of trouble, getting into fights so much, and eventually this hobby will make you quit wasting time in the streets all together. I know you love physics and want to become civil engineer, but be careful what you wish for, being civil engineer isn't all it's cracked up to be, it's just a glorified construction worker. It's hard work and the salary is shitty compared to other engineering majors, you will never be rich but the good thing is you will always have a job. Engineering sucks, engineering in public sector sucks even more, you will be underpaid and underappreciated, sure private sector pays well but for that you need amazing networking skills and impeccable people skills, which I have none of to this day. Don't look at me, I'm only the way I'm today because of your stupidity, so if you could please stop being a douchebag who has zero regards for other people's emotions that would be great, and while you're at it could you please also get use to small-talks, I know it's boring and you hate it, but adults need that shit. Also please get the habit of not cursing so much, I know you're just being yourself kiddo, but here is the thing asshole, no one likes grown ass man cursing all the time.

You'll have amazingly crazy fucked up life with lots of happiness and shit loads of bad, and through it all surprisingly enough you will still have a smile on your face. Now you're thinking "why should I take any of what this old geezer said seriously?" Well, I'm older than you, I know..umm...stuff....and..umm...whatnot, so you have to at least hear me out. But please take the many advice I gave you seriously or so help me God I will find a time machine, come over there, break your Sega Genesis and beat your ass.

Sinisterly,
Your older self.

Dear 16 year old Marques,

If you were patient in life you would be in a better position than you are now. You always thought you would grow up with no regrets but we both know that's not true. You chose the idol boyhood life and delutional fun that everyone around you wanted to have and did not think shrewdly enough for your future. You only have God to thank for wherever you are today because quite frankly, you were nothing short of an annoying prick in my opinion.

Stay safe,

Love 21 year old Marques

Dear 16 year old me,

You're actually a good human being. I know you don't hear that enough so let me be the first to tell you. Don't worry so much about people. You will know proper betrayal, hurt and being deceived a few years later. No need to magnify little problems. Your life is great so stop making up hang ups that just aren't there. You're very assertive and studious, try to keep that up. You'll lose it later on in life. Hard-work beats natural aptitude any day of the week.

You're growing up to be an amazing young woman, conscientious and with great work ethic, always strive to be better though. No use carrying a chip in your shoulder. The sooner you learn this the better. Be more appreciative to the blessings in your life. I know you think you're too smart for the world but truth is you're actually inexperienced, naive, innocent and way too trusting. Don't worry though, you have a great support system and if you just turn to them more often for advice you'll do just fine.

Quit walking around judging people. Like seriously stop it. Your shit stinks too. Life will teach you this though eventually, when you lose a close friend over your lack of empathy. Don't be afraid of failure. You will taste it and find that it is not the end of the world.

P.S Hooyo is ALWAYS right. Like always. Doesn't matter what it is, small or big she just is.Take her advice more often. It will save you a lot of headache.
Regards,
The more experienced you.
