hey in my Islamic classes they keep mentioning that somalia is an arab country. what is ur take on this?

Yeah somalia is a member of the arab league since 1974 also Djibouti are members..

Maybe somalia is a member of the arab league - but I don't think that somalis consider themselves arabs..
