soulmate

Post by zulaika »

Salaams my sisters..

how many of you ladies believe in this? :) that guy you're meant for and may not necessarily end up marrying. I'm not judging but I'm always fascinated by women who firmly believe in this; I don't disbelieve in idea altogether..

its a welcoming thought, but further to its presence in this world, i would put more stock in the idea...in Jannah(may Allah grant us all)..when you're soul finds its permanent home/partner..and the full potential of the idea is realized

W/Salaam Zulaika,

Depends what you define as a soul-mate. In reality, there are numerous people we are compatible with, however if it is the hyped bravado about another person making you 'feel complete', I don't ascribe to that, kolee aniga ma kala dhini.

lol @"ma kala dhini"..

u r most certainly not. but I'm sure we are all incomplete in some respect. Oneness is for Allah. for us mere mortals, I feel the idea of partnership, in any dynamic, carries a unique sense of "complete"..specially the one between man and woman as intended by Allah....and although i agree this hyped superficial "he/she completes me" is quite foul, but at the same time I admire those who take a more meaningful approach to the idea.

Good point, we are obviously not like the creator and would never suggest such a likeness. My point is sis, the entire concept of soul-mate has roots in Greek mythology, some messed up shyt that we once had two heads, two sets of genitalia, eight limbs etc and that it was God's punishment to separate us into two entities due to humans' pride, thus the life-long quest to ''complete ourselves" by finding our other half, dhinicaas an ka wada lee dee Ilahee baa na dhameeystiray. Albeit most people refer to a spiritual manifestation of this idea, even that is uncomfortable to me though.

I prefer to think that we're as fully human as we can possibly can be (in mind, body and soul) nothing more and nothing less. Searching for the one that complements your own attribute makes sense. However, I do not know why any sane adult, would want to go through life, thinking, they ought to find the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle. Nor, can I understand how this could be comforting notion. What if you never find it? Forever an incomplete, how depressing.

Knowing the meaning behind the phrase and its origin would make most people feel silly about using it.

So tongue in cheek I confess I kind of believe in it.

Actually prior to existing in this transitory world, the Dunya, there was a pre-worldly existance in which every soul testified that Allah was their creator, and in that pre-worldy existance which still exists for souls that are yet awaiting to be born in this world, is a world in which if two souls were close to one another, and if they met again in this world they would click instantly. Like two buttons on a coat.... so, that could be another way looking at the meaning behind 'soulmate', and also that in Islam the wife, or if your a woman, the husband, isn't considered Dunya.
