The two sides, Egypt and Somaliland, held a number of talks dealing with methods of developing the mutual relationship, especially in regards to the educational sector of the Republic of Somaliland. Furthermore, his excellency, the Egyptian Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Mahmoud Abu al-Nasr, gave the Somaliland delegation a warm welcome to Cairo. A meeting was held resulting in a number of positive developments for the Republic of Somaliland, such as:
The Egyptian Minister of Education and Higher Education presented the case to increase the members of the Egyptian educational mission stationed in Somaliland from 37 members to 100 members.
The approval of a grant for the Republic of Somaliland students that affords them the opportunity to study at an Egyptian private school, excelling in science and technology with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education giving them a special discount of 50% on expenses and tuition fees.
The approval of Somaliland graduates to pursue graduate studies at Egyptian Universities.
A welcome of the Egyptian Ministry of Education to the strengthening of the private Centre of Training for Teachers and continued construction in the Republic of Somaliland of programmes supplied with Egyptian expertise in addition to plans to support research at the centre.
The Egyptian Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Hasaam Isa, met another member of the Somaliland delegation, where the discussions took place between them resulting in his Excellency’s approval of increased study grants earmarked for Somaliland natives for admission to various Egyptian Universities. This has a very positive impact on the hearts of the members of the Somaliland delegation, who give their thanks for the support of the Republic.
The Undersecretary Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Dr. Abbas Schumann, met with the delegation of the Republic of Somaliland, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Bihy Younis and Minister of Education Zamzam Abdi Aden at the headquarters of Al-Azhar. Here, [Dr. Schumann] assured the preparedness of Al-Azhar to cooperate with the government and people of Somaliland in cultural and scientific affairs, especially in regards to sending missions, teachers and human resources to the Republic of Somaliland. In addition to restore the Azhar Egyptian Institute of Gamal Abde Nasser in Burao. It was also agreed that the Somaliland Ministry of Awqaf would provide a large mosque in the capital Hargeisa with living annexes to accommodate the advocates of Al-Azhar.
At the end of the visit, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Egypt addressed a meeting with the Somaliland delegation, where they discussed ways of boosting relations between the two countries and methods to develop them during the coming period
