When Do You Stop Being Referred to Adeer/Abti

Post by AbdiWahab252 »

Do you quit accepting titles like Adeer, Abti from younger folk after a certain age if they are not direct relations ? My cut off is 21 and then I take a leaf from my Waqooyi peoples and only accept Walal, Abowe, etc.

I know it sounds odd but I'd be damned to be called Adeer by a nearly 30 yr old. Adeernimo ended when you started growing facial hair.

What if they're from your clan and they're calling you adeer because you're older than they are and they're related to you through clan?

This is the only time I demand being referred to as either abti or adeer. As a show of respect. If they unintentionally forget to or have no clue, I quickly either give them a suspicious side glance or mutter contemptious remarks. The nerve! Bah!

AW i know you finding it hard. You are going through a transition which leaves thousands of men depressed. The transition from being called adeer or abti to awoowe. You will feel better with time, dont you worry old pal

This is a question I've had on my mind for the last couple of years. When do you stop calling someone adeer/abti?

Personally, if I haven't known them since childhood or if they aren't blood, I don't even bother with it.
