The prophet SAW mentioned the phrase "Iqaam al-salah", establishing the prayer, as this is the wording used in the Qur'an: "Aqeemu 's-salaata wa aatu 'z-zakah"
Here the wording is not 'preform the prayer', but it is to 'establish the prayer'. The meaning of establishing the prayer is that it must be fulfilled to the best of one's ability. It is something more than merely performing the prayer. It is about performing it regularly, without any shortcomings in its pillars and conditions, and must be according to the manner as prescribed in the Qur'an and Sunnah. This includes both the inner and outer aspects of the prayer.
So my point of this piece is a person said salah doesnt make a person muslim....well of course it does...as One of the strongest pieces of evidence for those who say that such a person does become a disbeliever is the hadiith of the prophet " Between a man and polythesim and disbeleif is the abandoning of prayer" -muslim. (Kufur takes you OUT of the fold of islam). In another hadiith the prophet also said Al-'Ahd alladhee baynanaa wa baynahum al-salah faman tarakahaa fa qad kafara " the covenant that is between us and them the disbelievers is the prayer, whoever abandons it has committed an act of disbelief".
"And do not leave an obligatory prayer intentionally, as whoever leaves it intentionally fa qad bari'at minhu adh-dhimmah – his has been absolved of any protection" – meaning he is no longer of the Muslims"Whoever prays our prayer, faces our qiblah, and eats our dhabeehah is a Muslim. For him is our wealth and upon him is what is upon us"
There was this saying "why are you not moving? Are you not alive?" meaning that if someone is alive, then they would move!A beautiful explaination that goes with that is You must know that prayer is the SOUL of religion. where there is no prayer, there can be no purification of the soul. The non praying man is rightly considered to be a soulless man. Take prayer out of the world and it is over with religion because it is with prayer that a man has the consciousness of GOD and selfless love for humanity and inner sense of piety . Prayer is there fore the highest and the most solemn phenomenon and manifestation of religion.
The prophet SAW mentioned the salah one day and then said "whoever guards them will have light, proof and safety on the day of Judgement. And whoever does not guard them will neither have a light, nor a proof and nor safety. And on the Day of the Judgement he will be with Qaarun [an enemy of Musa], Pharoah, Haamaan [a minister of Pharoah], ans Ubayy ibn Khalaf." Ijmaa' Sahabah: Abu Hurayrah "the Sahabah saw the leaving of no action as kufr except the leaving of salah." On that note those who use to pray would have the ability to prostrate when Allah asks his servants WHILE those who didnt would be shamefully be left standing.
There is an amazing wisdom in making acts of worship of different types: that is to test the slaves of Allah in different ways. There is also a minimum level of most acts of worship (which is the obligatory level, such as the fard salahs) and an optional extra level (which is recommended, such as the sunnah or nafl prayers).
This makes it easier for the slaves of Allah to worship Allah firstly by doing all the obligatory acts of worship with their many types, and then to do as many voluntary acts from those acts that suit ones personality. Some people can fast a lot, others can give charity easily, and so on.
And for those who said they are kufar, i mean kufar as in a disbeliever. I was merely making a point and i didnt mean to accuse anyone. Allah knows best may he forgive me if a said anything wrong. Also this is a reminder to my self first then to my brothers and sisters in Islam.
