GAROWE, Somalia Jan.17, 2014 (Garowe Online)-The President of Somalia’s northeastern state of Puntland Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas went out on tour to the areas hit by the deadly tropical cyclone along with former Puntland President Abdirahman Mohamed Farole on Friday, Garowe Online reports.
President Gaas is also being accompanied by Islamic scholars and traditional leaders who will witness the distribution of heads of livestock aimed at re-stocking the nomadic communities who lost their entire livelihoods in the cyclone.
The third face of the long term support’s ceremony has been held in Qarhis village where makeshift shelters were formed for those displaced by the storm.
Former President Abdirahman Farole paid two visits to the cyclone-hit vicinities in Nugal region, with the last tour as Puntland President distributing some 16,000 heads of livestock to the affected households.
In November 2013, cyclonic storm unleashed life-threatening flooding and high wind speeds along its path across the vast northeastern coast of the country, leaving over 200,000 families more destitute.
