Khat: What impact will UK herb stimulant ban have?

Post by STARKAST »

Home Secretary Theresa May is banning a herb called khat, a stimulant chewed by large sections of the Somali community and grown mainly in East Africa.

The UK is the biggest western importer of the plant, which in the next few months will become classified as a class C drug.

Alex Miller, editor-in-chief of Vice UK, looked into the use of the substance and the potential impact of the ban in a report on BBC

I didn't know Somalis have such good logistics.
Khat shouldn't be banned. Criminalizing stimulants/drugs is not the way.

It's yet another decision taken on the basis of moral panic and media outrage rather than scientific studies of the drug's effects on both the individual user and society as a whole

I concur your statements, if the government can't profit of it they want to ban it. Khat is gonna become a profitable business now, a new class of Somalis will be created.
