Just a little observation i made, i have friends from all over the world; Eritrea, Greece, Nigeria, Turkey, Arabia, the sub continent etc. Few of them have any real love or desire to help their country when they're a lot older. Whether that be settling back home, contributing to any developments etc.
Most Somalis i speak to, even some of the fish and chips community want to provide some help to their people back home or move there, some wish to transport their parents back home and support them in some way. Very few Somalis, even the most liberal, won't tell me they are happy to live western lives for the rest of their time being.
Do Somalis love their country more than others?

Where are those Somalis you speak of? The 'waa la noqonayaa' sentiments have long been echoed to us by our parents generation. I don't know too many young folks that are serious about it.

Yeah I agree Somalis love their country alot. They are very proud people. Their Somali identity is more stronger than their adopted identity. This is one thing I like about my Somali people.
An example is how when Al Shabaab got kicked out of Mogadishu back in 2011 many Somalis returned and began rebuilding the city. Also in diaspora Somalis have an obsession on talking about their country everytime.
Watch this:
InaSamaale,
Believe me I have seen many Somali youths working for their country or showing pride of their country.

Those countries don't need any reconstruction efforts so they have less of an emotional duty to their country. But I assure you those people from those countries love their country more than Somalis love theirs. Especially the Turks and Greeks.
I plan on moving back home at age 55 if I'm still alive. I'm retiring there. No retirement planner at the bank will be telling me that I must retire in poverty at age 75. I will retire in dignity and will come back here once a year for regular doctor check ups and stuff. I estimate I'll need $150,000 to retire for 25 years (if I live that long) for $500 a month budget. I won't even need to save that much to begin with. Just sell the house I'll hopefully own and move back to the motherland and wait for retirement pension to kick in. Ill build a modest home and just relax next to the beach. I just hope $500 a month is possible to survive on comfortably in 30+ years time. If not, my kids will become my piggy bank
