Somali words in your local slang
Any Somali influences in your local slang?
Somali words here have become the most used slang words. I've realized how used it was when I constantly saw people who dont hang with Somalis use it and one Afghan years ago who was stunned when he heard me say "gaa-ree" to my mother while I was on the phone with me. I had to tell him its Somali and that I dont speak like a bum to my mother
Cuunto = drugs
Gabdahs (not gabdow)= girls
Gaa-ree = car
dh*lo = self explanatory
macaan f*** = nice a**
Warye (not warya) = yo
maskah/madax (has overtaken other words) =self explanatory
Daac = steal (is this word Somali? Im assuming so)
I think its more positive than the TDot Somalis who literally speak patois (despite the bad language)
Anyways, any examples from your town?

Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool. I didn't know. Damn. Madah and kawal are the two most used words. I assumed kawal was Arabic.
They called me the Kawalogist/Kawalabear back in ____________ high school. Been kawaaling the scene and kawaling the system.
You know what I hate about slang. You can't trace it to the founder

Funny how most of the slang words here came from Somali, yet most Somalis can barely speak the language properly (myself included)

How can I forgotten "athi"?
Grandpa, but do you speak patois like the other Somalis?
Meth, I'm even worse than you. I stayed indoors in Somalia and used earphones so others dont talk to me. Or pretended I had to use the washroom to avoid conversations
Lilla, you made that up
