"SOMALIA: Amisom Spokesman says Uganda’s decision to send special forces will “kill the trust on Amisom”

AMISOM Spokesman Col. Ali Aden Houmed
Mogadishu (RBC) The Spokesman of the African Union Mission in Somalia [AMISOM] Col. Ali Aden Houmed has blasted the Uganda’s decision to send special forces and UN guards to Mogadishu will weaken the trust of both Somali people and the international community on AMISOM.
Uganda, the biggest contributor of the African Union Mission in Somalia known as AMISOM, will send 410 special forces to guard UN offices in Mogadishu, according to a military spokesman quoted by Wall Street Journal.
The 410 special forces will not serve under the AMISOM command which has more than 20,000 peace keepers now in Somalia. Uganda has more than 6,000 soldiers of the mission.
“If this is true then it will be difficult for AMISOM to work with the Ugandan forces not serving under AMISOM command.” Col Houmed said during an interview with VOA Somali Service this morning. “AMISOM has nothing to do with the said forces”.
The Djiboutian national Colonel Mr Houmed highlighted the importance to respect the mandate of the African Union Mission which is also authorized by the UN Security Council.
“AMISOM is here to keep peace and stability, so sending special forces not under the AMISOM command will only mean that there will no any trust on AMISOM. It will kill the trust of the mission.” Colonel Houmed added.
He added that he only knew that UN and Uganda had been conducting “a secret negotiation” relating to the security of the UN staff in Mogadishu.
Somali government has not yet said its response towards the deployment of the special forces into Mogadishu."

seems that the UN could be slowly losing faith in the African Union troops, as it plans to send 410 Ugandan Special Forces who will directly go under the command of the UN. The motives behind such a drastic move can be summed up by the fact that the level of insecurity in Mogadishu is on the rise and the UN has had its fair share of attacks carried out by Al-Shabaab, with the last attack claiming the lives of four UN staff.
The mission of the Ugandan Special Forces according to several sources to is to oversee the security of UN interests and to protect their buildings and staff from any possible attacks. The Al-Qaeda affiliated movement Al-Shabaab which believes the UN are their solemn enemy have targeted the UN numerous times over the years and cause the deaths of numerous members of staff.
Such a move however may not be accepted by all, apart from Al-Shabaab, the AMISOM forces also seem disgruntled by the news. AMISOM’s spokesman Col. Hamoud mentioned that he “hear the news” and was “astounded” as to why the UN would bring other forces when there are peacekeepers present who practically are supported by the UN. “If this is true then it will be difficult for AMISOM to work with the Ugandan forces not serving under AMISOM command. This poses the question, did the UN lose hope in the AMISOM, the AU ?” said Col. Hamoud.
Many analysts believe that the UN are realizing that the AU troops failed to protect UN interests and route Al-Shabaab, which lead to the UN to finally take things into their own hands.
“This really shows how the UN views the African Union Mission in Somalia, they are finally waking up and “smelling the coffee”, they lost hope in the AMISOM forces, this is what’s leading them to make this decision, I’m just surprised by how long it took them to figure this out” said Farhan Mahmud, an independent analyst based in Mogadishu.

Re: AMISOM spokenman: we are losing the ICs trust!
Sorry, after what Habargidir did in 1993 Somalia lost that option. No more white men for Somalia, you'll have to settle for walaalaha madow.
Re: AMISOM spokenman: we are losing the ICs trust!
You mean gaalo madow?
Man you have no clue about this strategy, what will change is the mission and the leadership besides any country can join it like turkey and the arab brothers
We will take amisom out of halane and replace them with a UN commanders!
Just like the ISAF base in kapul

Sorry, I don't see UNOSOM III happening sahal.
Even if somehow the UN did decide it was appropriate to send in UN peacekeepers, why would it risk precious white blood getting dragged in the streets again? Ma iloobtay what you guys did to all the Muslim countries that volunteered for UNOSOM I, UNOSOM II, UNITAF?
The big African armies like Ethiopia already contribute the majority of UN peacekeeping forces in Muslim African countries like the Sudan UNMIS, so why change for Somalia?
If UNOSOM III happens, the only difference on the ground would be Tedros and Aregawi with a pay raise, blue hats instead of green, and shiny new toys to bomb Somalia with.
Re: AMISOM spokenman: we are losing the ICs trust!
You don't get it!
The african forces will stay as foot soldiers along side with other nations, this doesn't mean all of them being whites!
The army will have international commanders in every town!
The HQ will have an international commanders
That's the military leadership, politically, we will be connected to new york instead of addis ababa
That what means a UN mission
You see the diffrences?
I have stated many times that al shabaab is the govts biggest card, it will make the govt stronger!!

^something is fundamentally wrong in your mentality when you really believe more foreign troops will make the situation better and the government stronger.

Do I need to explain what I meant by saying al shabaab will only make the govt stronger?
Did I meant the size of the troops or changing the mission?

Re: AMISOM spokenman: we are losing the ICs trust!
solution for somalia:
1. officially dissolve the illegal union between the former british protectorate of somaliland and the former italian colony of somalia
2. an independent somaliland has membership of un and other world organizations as well as have diplomatic relations with sovereign nations
3. somalia (former italian colony which was the second constituent part of the 1960-1991 somali union) should lose sovereignty/i.c. membership and be a un trusteeship administrated politically/militarily by italy
4. let somalians decide ALL concerning issues before it can once more be a sovereign nation
