Till illness do us apart

Because if you get sick in Somalia and a Somali doctor comes thousands of miles away to treat you, don't waste your time traveling hundreds of miles and waiting in line. Dr. Macow was arrested today in Hargeysa for simply opening a free clinic for sick Somalis. In a country where healthcare is virtually unattainable either because it is too expensive or unavailable, this arrest is hard to understand. Mind you, the doctor and his assistants cleared with the Ministry of Health before arriving. This reminds of Alshabaab's harassment of Drs. Hawa in Marca.

Anyone know why Dr. Macow was arrested?

I know he's from Europe but I'm not sure from which country. But gives a hoot?! The point is he was arrested providing vital services to people who came from LOOOOOOONG distances and waited in lines that stretched as far the eye can see.

Why was he arrested, that is what I wanna know.

His trip was part of much publicized campaign to treat people back in Somalia for free. That's great appeal - FREE HEALTHCARE.

Grant, I thought you were some octogenarian Yankee Mormon, since when did you start reading and citing Somali websites? Have I missed something?

So, according to the article you posted, he was ostensibly arrested because he was charging people $40, right? Then I would presume Hargeysa City Police would also arrest all other doctors based in that city charging $40 or more for healthcare services, right?

It is ridiculous argument and the article you posted is a hatchet job to smear the doctor. He may well be greedy but that is not a crime. And if someone is willing to pay $40, let them pay. Why is the business of the police to regulate private transaction?

Clearly, there is more to it than meets the eye. Is it a local police chief who wants to make a name for himself? Is it local Hargeysa politics? Is it clan politics?

This is BS! I'm sorry but isn't he a licensed doctor in the UK with a medical practice that he runs? Are you telling me that the UK government allows any wannabe doctor to open a medical practice? Please enlighten. Here in N. America only qualified doctors are allowed to operate medical practice.

I don't find this especially reassuring. There is no reference for his medical background or MD. The description is for a practitioner of naturopathy, which is usually described as a pseudoscience.

He is from Somalia, not Somaliland therefore if he wants to help people, he should help his people. Also the police are investigating his supposed medical qualifications.

He was educated in Germany and practiced there before coming to UK. If his Somali language sucks while answering Questions doesn't mean that bad doctor. This is smear campaign against him whoever behind it. He should have gone somewhere else.
