Re: Capitalism in Indonesia
The Jakartan economy is heavily underwritten by the Chinese. The Hans monopolise industry like they do in Malaysia. Which accounts for the periodic riots against them. Talk about Protestant work ethic.
Re: Capitalism in Indonesia
Yes they seem to be in charge of the factories of these multinational corporations. This video addresses how the corporations (historically assisted by their government) sponges of indonesian cheap labour and loot the profit. Here they show example of a running shoe that costs a £100 and out of the £100 the indonesian worker gets less than 40 pence. The same is for a pair of shorts which costs £8.00 and the worker receives less than 40 pence. Each day the workers produce a minimum of 3,000 shorts in subhuman conditions.
This video talks about how suharto took power and how the west played a hand in the genocide of half a million Indonesians; suharto who played a lacky took power.

Re: Capitalism in Indonesia
Suharto was rough with the communists. 1965 was a bad year for Reds in Jakarta no doubt. The left hates him for that bloodbath, but they forget he slaughtered the fundamentalists in Ache as well. Old 'Harto was an equality opportunity slayer. He kept the state on the secular Pancasila ideology of Sukarno whose forced retirement he engineered.
Sukarno asked for it though by subverting Indonesia's democratic system and installing himself as dictator. Bad move 'Karno.

Re: Capitalism in Indonesia
Indonesia's future, like that of so many former colonies, was choked at birth.
Indonesia should be the richest country on earth with all it's resources.
