No not feasible. Nuclear fusion and Hydrogen power is the future and somalis have an abundance in raw materials for both.

GE charges $2M for a commercial wind turbine and that includes installation. Maintenance costs I'm unsure of.

Wait why is it not feasible? Or are you suggesting it would not be a good investment with a poor return?

Not feasible, as in extremely expensive to install, maintain and run compared to the amount of energy obtained from wind. Solar is more realistic but even that is still quite expensive. Somalis need to invest in education so that we can nuture scientists and engineer capable of building nuclear power stations and hydrogen fuel cell technology.

The map is accurate for example there is a $30 million project to tranfer ethiopian elecricity to somaliland.
$30 million will buy 40 French 1mw turbines or 50 1mw chinese turbines enough to cover the amount of electricity to be purchased from ethiopia.
There is a lot of potential in Somalia only in the north however, the largest potential is on the pirate coast in puntland.

Sorry, I didn't quite catch that. Are ethiopians trying to invest in wind energy through Somaliland or is Somaliland trying replace ethiopian electricity with their own source of power? If it's the former why do these deadbeats pimp our country out to xabashi and get very little in return? If it's the latter, are you saying Somaliland gets it's energy from xabash, thats the first I've heard of it.

Solar power, wind power, hydropower in the rivers in the south. The options are vast.

Ethiopia just opened the largest wind farm (Ashegoda) in Africa, maybe gurey25 means to buy turbines from them instead of just buying power like Djibouti does.

Fyi Djibouti gets the vast majority of its energy needs from Ethiopian hydropower as part of a recent deal signed by President Guelleh. For a few million a month, Djibouti gets much cheaper and reliable power than it used to.

When the huge Ethiopian Nile dam (largest hydropower dam in Africa) comes fully online they'll have more options. Ditto for when the geothermal project in neighboring Afar State (also largest of its kind in Africa) is up.

There is a proposal sent to the EU to fund the installation of cables and transmission equipment to allow export of cheap hydroelectric power from Ethiopia.
It is projected to cost $30 million.
Electricity from Ethiopia will still be 1/3 the cost of electricity right now in Somaliland, even if you get a company that adds the cost of the $30 million plus to the customers reciept and makes Somaliland people pay for it on amonthly basis they will still see a massive discount.

I suggested that the higher than average wind potential in somaliland would allow more than 50% of our current consumption to come from wind power.
If hat $30 million is spent on Windturbines you would get 50 1MW chinese turbines or 38 french ones .
50 MW will still provide a quarter of Hargiesa and Burco power combined.

Cooincidently the Ashegoda farms use Vergnet Wind Turbines its the same model i was referencing for price.
It was used in the Asaab project in Eritrea and 3 of them produce 30% of the cities power population 50,000.

Vergents 1MW turbine costs $800,000 each Ashegoda has 84 installed, there is an equivalent Chinese model with german parts for $500,000.

Why are we begging EU for 30 million dollars when we could fund it ourselves. Also I don't think it's very bright relying on ethiopia to provide our energy.

There is something fishy about the Ashegoda project.
How does it cost $290 million for 84 turbines? that over 3 times the cost.
Maintainance and installation will not cost that much, Vergnets Turbines are easy to install and maintain a small farming village in the US can maintain it anyone can.

The price for the 1MW turbine they used is $800,000 so 84 should cost $67.2 million not $290 million installation and maintenance for 5 years still will cost you an extra $180,000 a turbine.
