The innate pride of being ethnically Somali
Yes politically it's messed up.
Yes we have a lot of issues to sort out
No there is no specific reason for this pride, it's just because of the Somali blood that runs through you. That in itself is enough. It's funny and we take the piss out of it and each other because of this "arrogance" (some will try to add politics to it) but ultimately it doesn't take away from that ethnic pride.
Dad ayaa jiro, no matter what they achieve in life they have this cuqdad they can't shake. They never feel like they are equal or good enough.
I wondered why I'm different and though I wouldn't understate the work my family put into raising me, I have to admit, there is something about being Somali that gives that suuro I can't shake even if I tried and for that I am grateful.

You are more Arab than you are Somali so it's understandable.hyperactive wrote:I don't experience that. if anything being Somali is something not take pride of it. maybe my uprising was different.

Lakin in terms of ethnic identity I think mixed people can maybe be less attached? At least you still look Somali, imagine if you were half white or asian etc lol

jasmine, kalsoonida not about being Somali tho. is something to do with individual experience and uprising. some people have low self steam.

Re: The innate pride of being ethnically Somali
I agree, I have seen many mixed race Somali especially white that are very proud of their Somali side. It just that the Arab kid hyperactive probably gets bullied for his Somali side by the Arabs, hence is disloyal to his Somali side.
Myself I have family members who are half Somali, and they are more Somali than me.

BV,
I can't lie, I love our Somali pride. Even when everything would point to being in the dumps, we have it

Re: The innate pride of being ethnically Somali
You know what? I once met this wonderful somali woman who was dating a non-somali and she echoed some words which I will never forget:
With a somali, she said, she could articulate her needs, worries, wants, pains and love. She also described indepth the tacit dimensions of human interactions and behaviour.
I am not convinced of somali pride though when there is nothing to be proud of.

What about Somali culture, ain't that something to be proud of? Just because Somalia has collapsed doesn't mean one cannot be proud of his country and people.Lamgoodle wrote:You know what? Though too much proud is not good, Islamically. I think it is better to say 'happy/appreciated' to be Somali.

Even123 it's not about patriotism though, it's...
a je ne sais quoi.
I think being Somali has something to do with that.
a je ne sais quoi.
It's not about akhlaaq either. Kalsooni is part upbringing yes, and personality too but going back I think there is an innate tendency for Somalis to have this kalsooni. You'd be hard pressed to find qof Somali ah who thinks qof cadaan ama timo jilic or indho yar is better than them. Or that they as an individual are worth less than someone else. Add all those individuals together and as community we have that pride. Even now, in our political chaos.hyperactive wrote:jasmine, kalsoonida not about being Somali tho. is something to do with individual experience and uprising. some people have low self steam.

That's the best part of it. There's little to be proud of, but we still have it!Lamgoodle wrote:You know what? I once met this wonderful somali woman who was dating a non-somali and she echoed some words which I will never forget:
