Development/Destruction and how Somali media portrays it

Post by Adali »

There are tenth of thousands of Somali news sites, and they are famous for being tribal to the core, right down to sub-sub-sub clan.

These websites claim or allude to "safeguard/pursue the interest" of the sub-clan they "represent" now I have no problem with that at all, I don't mind people organizing and identifying with each other and protecting each others interest, however we all have an array of interest that are common to all Somalis that need to be pursued.

one of those interest is the subject of my topic, how development is portrayed.

In every Somali news site, we portray development as a foreign initiative, they lead development and fund it, they are portrayed as saviors, and this portrayal is really magnified with the pictures where in 90% of them there is a White person standing, how more foreign can a white person be to the indigenous Somali Muslim population, we need a revolution in the media, because at the moment we are selling a dangerous message to the masses in the country and abroad, a message that portrays foreigners saviors and the indigenous population as destroyers.

It is time to rethink, what images/messages we sell to the masses, and how we sell it, the media is very influential and we are stabbing ourselves to death with it.

Most Somali's know this.
The problem is there is no trust between and within communities.
Until this is resolved we will be at the mercy of foreigners.
