I've observed throughout my years on S/net and irl to some extent that women are often used as a weapon against a man's pride. To clarify, insulting women (or any person) that someone is related to will most likely evoke anger and rightfully so; however, in many cases, the woman/women being insulted is not a direct relative. For instance, two forumers, usually male, are at each others throats and one will probably initiate a long discussion on how women from tribe/clan X are ridiculously easy to sleep with. Now the person from tribe/clan X will claim the exact same thing about tribe/clan Y and this goes on to include other supposedly scandalous groups of women. Another example is when a non-Somali slanders Somali women for being promiscuous, ugly, etc, and then the Faarax will step up to "defend the honour of Somali women" and begin to disrespect women from various walks of life. And to make things clear, I don't think this is not exclusive to Somalis at all. Thus, what I'd like to know is if women and their status are integral parts of a man's pride/dignity? Also, are males even cognizant of this? Are you bothered when someone insults the women of your clan or tribe or region? And if so, could you explain why.

I'd like to know is if women and their status are integral parts of a man's pride/dignity?

Are you bothered when someone insults the women of your clan or tribe or region?

"This is a mans world" and women are assets owned by men, Father/brother/husband, they go from a daughter looked after by her father to a wife looked after by her husband. a female going stray or becoming loose will have a far more devastating effect on a family than say a guy and we all know this. And with somalis "pride is everything" a little small slip up from a daughter can destroy a whole familys image in an instant making them the laughing stock of the whole community.

Arabs and West Africans.... nope. They never expose girls when they get down with them. Arabs may be wife beating animals but from what ive seen, they keep quiet and certainly never try to insult others by bringing women into it. Ive never seen an Arab or West African or even all Africans except Somalis do cheap shots

WTF are you taaaaaaaaaaalking about. When I was in high school and Somaligate came out, carabta made their own version but there's was an e-mail full of girls w/ their full names, their fathers' names, addresses, schools, home # and pictures/vids. I even witnessed girls get snitched out by their Arab classmates for being slutty and have their brothers roll up to school to beat the brakes off them. Carabta are prolly the worst offenders. As for West Africans Hang around a Nigerian or Congolese guy long enough and he'll tell you about his supposed sexcapades w/ girls from all backgrounds, then afterwards hit you with the "but I'll marry a Naija/Congo queen from my home town. They are known for being pure".

cuz they represent me thats why. they represent my gang so if a member of my gang is slipping thats ammunition thats used agains me in somali society, same way Ayan Hirsi the athiest woman is used agains Majertens cus she represents her whole tribe, so when you think of majerten the first thing that comes in your mind is Ayan hirsi. im sorry to say but thats how somali society is

I think their are two aspects to this.
One is the control and protection men naturally feel towards women; so one will feel offended that the women closer to him are corrupt. It's a sign of failure in the wider community or even his clan.

The second one is more obvious and that is that people are closer to the country or region they hail from which is like an extended community, you feel a higher sense of closeness with your origins and just like individuals wish to be positive they will also will want to have a positive monolithic view of it. When a person attacks that it's like an attack at the individual, culture or region.

So you two agree that a woman's status is a component of your pride/dignity?
