Doing A-Levels does not make you any smarter than a BTEC student. Trust me, I've seen it all.

btec is very very easy compared to a level. It is an easier alternative for people who are not looking to university as an option

But it prepares you better for university education and gives you an advantage in the admission.

most of them do end up going to uni lol....it seems that doing btec is an easier option to just sit around play ps3 day and night and cram up an essay just 20 minutes before deadline....trust me I've seen it with some of my friends.

It's pretty silly of you to think Btec is automatically dead easy. In college I did Btec IT, A level Biology, and A level physics and trust my Btect IT was the one I struggled with the most.

I did A-Levels and although I had coursework it was otherwise very well structured and there was a lot of hand-holding. We were pretty much learning to repeat in the exam. BTEC on the other hand, from my understanding, is coursework based which leads to a lot of independent study and the need for a deeper understanding. This, I would argue, is better at preparing you for university.

As for admissions you can still go to university. Heck I even know people who've gone on to do medicine afterwards.

That said, I don't think I could have done well in a BTEC course, you'd need a lot of self discipline which at that age is wishful thinking. It was for me at least.

This is exactly what uni can be like for most people. There's no one there to force you to go to class or do all the extra reading you're supposed to. I'm just wondering if someone who's used to having this sort of freedom and understands the responsibility is better prepared for uni?

jasmine, why do you think universities prefer A level students?
A levels are more rigorous and more academic than Btec. If you are from the A level root, you are more likely to do better at uni than if you were from the Btec root and that is a proven fact.

I don't know about a proven fact. I think a 17 year old who is committed to their BTEC course would do better than one flaking on their A-Levels. Ultimately, the more self-discipline they can master at that age, the better their grades and the better their future prospects. I think BTEC gets unfair criticism and may be vastly underrated.

School tests doesn't equate to intelligence.
